About Us

We are Daniel and Courtney Shevchenko, aka, “The SuperShevys”. We met back in early 2016 on an online dating website, fell in love over the summer while Daniel was in the states visiting with me (Courtney), and then Daniel flew back home to Australia. After a crazy turn of events, we were betrothed in October of 2016, filed for a fiancé visa in November of 2016, and then Daniel flew back here to Alabama in August 2017 with the fiancé visa in hand. We were married on September 8th, 2017, and have a one-year-old son, Oliver, baby girl Esmeralda due in June 2020, and two sweet babies in heaven!

When we first got married, we were renting a house and doing backyard homesteading with 4 chickens (a wedding present from my siblings), and a small garden. As we worked to establish ourselves, we knew one of our big goals was to one day have a working family farm. We were able to save money and purchased the perfect little starter home on 1 acre in a sweet neighborhood near where Daniel works, and after months of renovation, we were able to move in during August of 2019. We are continuing our renovations, but have also began our own backyard urban farmstead. We currently have chickens, a fig tree, and a lot of dreams, but we are hoping to add goats and pigs, and a large garden/more fruit and nut trees over the coming years before we move on to a larger piece of property.

Another of our goals is to minimize waste and become as self-sufficient as possible, so some of the things you will see on this website are the ways we are using to try and accomplish those goals. We also are also working towards having the house completely paid off in the next 5-6 years, Lord willing, at which point, we will re-evaluate how we are doing and what we want to do next.

We look forward to you joining along on our journey. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Welcome to Our Urban Farmstead! We are Daniel and Courtney Shevchenko. Our goal is to become as self-sufficient and sustainable as possible on our 1-acre urban neighborhood lot before moving on to bigger pastures.

We will be sharing our home renovation projects, the making of our mini-farm, boondocking tips and tricks, and other snapshots of the various adventures we experience in our day-to-day life on our farmstead.

We hope that this site will be a blessing and encouragement to you. Have a question? Feel free to email us. 🙂
